Welcome to the website of the iconographer Kalliopi Margiori – Ersotelou
The art of Byzantine iconography includes various stylistic traditions developed through different historical periods. The joyful and expressive Macedonian school with its strong Hellenistic influence, the more austere and devotional Cretan school developed in monasteries, and the modern expressions of Byzantine iconography today all illustrate the evolution of this sacred artistic tradition.
Through many years of experience in both the practice and the teaching of Byzantine iconography, Kalliopi Margiori – Ersotelou has developed her own artistic approach while also mastering the traditional techniques of the different iconographic schools. The true value of iconography lies in helping believers express their faith through prayer and contemplation.
In the following pages you can view a selection of icons and church murals created by the artist, as well as a short biography.
